Sunday Stars
About Sunday Stars
“You have brains in your head and you have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” —Dr Seuss
What is Sunday Stars?
Sunday Stars is a group of runners that meet just about every Sunday for a run or a walk. It is as much of a social as it is a running group, and the pace varies greatly from walkers to shufflers to joggers to runners.
Who can run Sunday Stars?
While Stars is strongly affiliated to Totalsports VOB, it is open to anyone who wants to join us, whether they belong to the club or not. However, promotions and special events are usually only available to club members.
When is Sunday Stars?
Just about every Sunday, Stars will meet at 7am in summer and 7.30am in winter.
Where does Sunday Stars meet?
Stars meets at various locations that are communicated during the preceding week, and the locations include the Total Sports VOB clubhouse, Muizenberg, Tokai, Hout Bay, Noordhoek, the Waterfront, Simonstown and Newlands. The routes vary from 12km’s to 18km’s with several shortcuts available on the routes.
- How does it work?
Communication is via email, using sundaystarsrocks@gmail.com, via the Total Sports VOB newsletter and a whatsapp group for announcements. - Every time you run you bring your own cup and a 2 litre coke.
- Every week there is a coke car, which is a volunteer who drives along the route and stops at 2 or 3 different points. The car is primarily a safety factor, but the volunteer also provides your coke and water. The leftover coke is sold every week to build a cash kitty for Stars, to be used for any necessary costs and for the year end function.
- If you run regularly with Stars you are encouraged to volunteer once a year to be the coke car ‘boss’.
- A register is available every Sunday, and this then records your runs with a running (scuse the pun) total. Every 100km you run with Stars is celebrated at our year end get-together.
- Stars also provides support at the Grape Run and the Constantia Village 15km by powering a drinks table for the club.
Every adventure requires a first step. We look forward to you taking your first step with us on Sunday.
